Geneva the International City

Geneva is the international city with many important offices. The old seat of the League of Nations, it attracts many tourists.On the day that I landed, there was the huge arrival of tourists for skiing.The image above seems to commemorate the family as an institution.

A Vineyard by the University

With drizzle and occasional rains, this is the best I could get of the Alps. Even then the snow is beckoning.

EPFL: A University by the Alps

École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is a major university in Switzerland. Its beauty is enhanced further with its proximity to the Swiss Alps. The images are taken on a rainy day, even then the the snow capped mountains look attractive.

St-François Church in Lausanne

This is the St-François Church in Lausanne taken from the Lausanne Cathedral at night. From a distance it looks very photogenic. The sharp turrets in gray, are set off against the dark back ground. The church was built way back in 1272, and had been sacked in 1476 as a result of reformation. It was abandoned by the Franciscans in 1536. The upheavals are now gone and today in the night sky it looks like a star.

The pointed turret at the entrance of Cathédrale Notre-Dame juts elegantly into the night sky. Some restoration work is now going on in the cathedral.

The tall towers of Lausanne Cathedral helped the night watch at the top to keep an eye on fires in the city at night.

Lausanne Cathedral at Night

Lausanne Cathedral is a feast to the eye at night. Built way back in 1175, it has a very high tower which was guarded all through the night to warn people of fire in Lausanne which was fairly wooded then and fires were too frequent. In the wake of reformation, in 1536, the cathedral was robbed of all its treasures. The statue of gold of Virgin Mary was melted in to coins. The Cathedral however still retains its beauty.

Lausanne: Chalet Suisse Restaurant

Chalet Suisse is a very famous and important restaurant for its fondue. The flavour of the restaurant is unique as it is outside the city limits in an wooded area. The bell shaped shades give warmth to the interiors.
